What
is Ewe 22?
Ewe 22 is a functional equivalent for the original U22/G10
security PIC IC chip used in all WPC-S and WPC-95 games from
1993 to 1999.
What
is a security PIC IC?
Williams developed the original security PIC as a method of
electronically fingerprinting each machine. Each chip had
the game's serial number programmed into it, and was displayed
as part of the bootup process. This way, distributors could
track an individual machine.
The chips are "keyed" to the game software itself
- a PIC for World Cup Soccer will only work with World Cup
Soccer software. They are not swappable with any other game.
Without
the correct security PIC installed, the machine will not complete
the bootup process and will report a "INCORRECT U22
ERROR" on WPC-S and a "INCORRECT G10 ERROR"
on WPC-95.
Why
do I need a Ewe 22? My original security PIC is working fine.
The original security PIC IC's are no longer available from
Williams. If the chip fails, your machine is essentially useless.
Williams never sold two security PICs with the same serial
number.
We recommend that a Ewe 22 is used for daily game operations,
and the original saved for later resale or to keep the game
"original."
Ewe
22 is shipped in a special anti-static container which can
be used to safely store the original.
Will
a single Ewe 22 work in all games?
No. Each Ewe 22 is made to work in tandem with a particular
game title. A Medieval Madness Ewe 22 will only work in a
Medieval Madness.
Do
I need any special version of software installed to use Ewe
22?
No. Ewe 22 works with any version of software. We do recommend
however that most games be upgraded to the latest available.
Are
any restrictions placed on the game with Ewe 22 installed?
No. Ewe 22 does not limit the game to "Free Play",
or any other type of restriction. The machine will continue
to function exactly as the original.
Will
any of my settings or high scores be lost/reset when a Ewe
22 is installed?
No. All high scores and settings will be retained.
How
does Ewe 22 differ from the original?
Each original security PIC had a unique serial number encoded
internally. All Ewe 22's have a serial number of "999999
99999". This allows for easy identification that Ewe
22 is installed.

How
can I tell if my original security PIC is bad?
A bad security PIC will display "U22 ERROR" or "G10
ERROR" during the bootup process.
Are
there Ewe 22's available for other WPC-S/WPC-95 based games? What about Home Roms?
Yes. For example, a Ewe 22 is available for Ticket-Tac-Toe and Phantom House. Also available for Theatre of Magic V1.4H. Please inquire for any special needs.
My
game is having strange coil/lamp/switch problems. Will Ewe
22 solve these issues?
No.
